"His eyes rested in puffy little hammocks of flesh and his mouth drooped with discontent."
This is an excellent example of imagery. When i read this i can imagine a man that is obviously unhappy; which helps create the character in my mind, and gives me an idea of how the character acts.
1
"Kino heard the little splash of the morning waves on the beach..."
I thought that this was a very good description. It made me feel like I was at the beach with my toes in the sand and listening to jumping fishes make big splashes in the little waves.
35
"kino's eyes were hooded now, and his cheeks were drawn taught."
If the author had just said that Kino din't trust the doctor then the reader wouldn't understand that Kino feels like he can't trust anybody.

"The pearl has become my soul...."
Using a metaphor instead of a simile tells me that Kino is more serious. If he would've said a simile like, "The pearl s like my soul," it wouldn't sound quite as serious.

Onomatopoeia: Words whose sound suggests its meaning.

This quote is saying that the pearl winks which is giving it a human characteristic.
71
"And in the pearl there was Coyotito's face..."
This quote is saying that Coyotito is in the pearl which is giving the pearl a non-pearl trait.

26
"Kino was afraid as a man is afraid who says, 'I will' without knowing,"
This is a good example of a simile because it uses the word "As" instead of not using the word which would make it a metaphor.
38
" This pearl is like a sin."
If the author had just said that the pearl was evil and it brought misfortune then the reader would not have got that the author was trying to say that the pearl is like a superstition.
19
"Kino lifted the flesh, and there it lay, the great pearl, perfect as the moon."
Comparing the pearl to the moon in this simile using ''as'' makes this sentence a good figurative language example.
